Leonardo was revealed by Flamengo and arrived in Tricolor through an exchange with midfielder Bobô, in 1990. He was a dedicated left forward, position in which he was very successful during his first passage through São Paulo FC, winning the 1991 Paulista and Brazilian Championships and catching the eyes of Valencia’s administrators. He became a midfielder in Valencia. He returned to Tricolor in 1993, once gain playing a crucial role in the achievement of new titles. After the 1994 World Cup, inwhich he played for the Brazilian Team, Leonardo was traded to Japanese football, where he defended the Kashima Antlers.
He then became an idol of Paris Saint-Germain and Milan. He returned once again to Tricolor in 2001, for a third season, but not shining as bright as he used to. He worked as a coach for two of the greatest teams around the world: Milan, Internazionale, and he was the sports administrator at Paris Saint-Germain.
